ACTIVE - As part of the Artists4Art initiative of our collective, we invite visual artists with environmental and ecological orientation in their work to submit their proposals to us with the aim of participating in an exhibition entitled "Before the Alcyons' Days are over” that we will present in summer 2021 in Athens.

The exhibition was due to be released in January 2021. However, due to measures to address the prolonged pandemic, it has been postponed and will be rescheduled. Visual artists, members and non-members of our collective, have already been selected and are working on the project, under the coordination of the art curator Paris Capralos. Our collective is considering the possibility of holding the exhibition in May 2021, if the conditions allow a fundamentally smooth conduct.

Pandemic data adaptation
The exhibition was due to be released in January 2021. However, due to measures to address the protracted pandemic, it has been postponed and will be rescheduled. Visual artists, members and non-members of our collective, have already been selected and are working on the project, under the coordination of the art curator Paris Capralos. Our collective is considering the possibility of the exhibition being held in May 2021, if the conditions allow for a fundamentally smooth conduct.

In addition to the physical exhibition in an Athenian gallery in the city center, the exhibition will have a digital version on a specialized electronic exhibition platform, while it will be displayed on our website, with full information on works, artists, artistic statements and CVs. , displayed at the same time on social media.

However, we are open to proposals for a partnership or last minute interest show if the artist or stakeholder (eg group, alternative venue, etc.) focuses on environmental issues. For more information, we are waiting for your email with the information that you will find in the section with the subtitle "What you must submit to us" below.

Conceptual Framework
The most important stake of our time, the urgent action we must take to save the human species and as many life forms as we can from the self-destructive rage of our technological "civilization", is inscribed in pop culture as an incentive to save its benevolent our personalized planet is in danger. "Save the planet," we hear.

The planet does not need us. Undoubtedly, we are interested in the rescue. And it depends mainly on the survival of the ecosystem in a way "friendly" to our species. Our quality of life alike. Both parameters are meaningless on a lifeless planet. We are therefore responsible for the natural environment, and every life form that exists in it. And we must fight to protect it. If we succeed, we protect our present and improve our future.

In recent years we are increasingly faced with natural disasters, giant losses in lives and structures, but, above all, the deterioration of our living conditions. Unprecedented epidemics (not just the new coronavirus, for example in the last 40 years AIDS, SARS, "bird flu", "swine flu", "mad cows", Zika, Ebola), environmental diseases and allergies, overheating , extreme weather events - consequences of climate response to brutal human intervention, greenhouse effect, air pollution, water pollution, waste that the ecosystem is no longer able to decompose, deforestation, reduction of biodiversity us personally, to each of us, directly threatening or destroying our lives. The natural environment has become unrecognizable. Climatically distinct seasons of the last decade tend to disappear. The only thing that remained constant (for now) are the Alkyonides Days

The appearance of alkyon days today refers to the period between mid-December to mid-February, a period which contains the mythological connection with the incubation period of alkyon eggs in January. From a meteorological point of view, there is an equalization of pressures between Northern Europe and the region of Greece and Southeastern Europe, which results in an anti-cyclonic situation with apnea and summer in the heart of Winter. Recent research has shown that alkyon days were a stable meteorological phenomenon during the 5th and 4th centuries BC, between January 15 and February 15. Although years without "alkyon days" have been observed, the phenomenon persists in the stubbornness of climate change, and is today one of the few climatic "constants" of the Southeastern Mediterranean.

It is good to recognize the problem in its true dimensions, before rushing to solve it. It is good to rush to solve the problem before it cancels out our lives. It is good to review our living conditions before we cause irreversible damage to our environment. It is important to look at the "monster" before the Alkyonides Days are over.
